Regulator the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and industry organisation the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) will host the Engineering Symposium on March 25 and 26, 2026, in the Galleria in Sandton, to strengthen the role of engineering in national and continental development.

The conference's theme will be 'Engineering for Sustainable Development: Empowering Innovation, Inclusion and Impact'. It will see more than 300 delegates from South Africa, Africa and abroad attend, representing government, State-owned entities, voluntary associations, academia, industry leaders and students.

Specifically, the gathering is designed to address common challenges, such as climate resilience, water security, sustainable infrastructure and energy transitions, as well as explore the future of engineering through digital transformation, smart cities, ethics in governance and the evolving skills landscape.

Further, it will also aim to support progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals by sharing practical, scalable solutions among delegates, the organisations say.

“The symposium is a collective commitment by the engineering community to shape an inclusive and sustainable future,” says ECSA strategy and growth executive Voltaire Shai.

The two-day programme will close off with the Engineering Industry Awards that will place a spotlight on individuals and organisations that are making an enduring contribution to the profession by setting benchmarks for excellence, transformation and innovation, he adds.
